Archive Description | Oral History - James Madison Shamblin. James Madison Shamblin, IV, is a descendent of one of the first men killed in the 1888 Jaybird-Woodpecker Feud in Richmond, Texas. Mr. Shamblin talks about his understanding of his great grandfather’s death. In 1943 Mr. Shamblin joined the Marine Corps. After the war he played baseball at UT and recalls the glory of winning national championships on the University of Texas team. In a twist of fate, the late 1940’s he played baseball on a semi-pro team called the Fort Bend Jaybirds. |
