Archive Description | Oral History - Maurice Berkman. Mr. Maurice Berkman is currently a resident of Houston, Texas. But he spent 45 years of his life running a grocery store in Simonton, Texas. He begins his interview with recollections of his father, Harry Berkman, who grew up in Visneva, Russia but immigrated to Galveston, Texas in 1911. In 1913 he joined the American military to fight in World War I. In order to do so he had to sign a Declaration of Intention renouncing his allegiance to any foreign prince. |
